New IIT Pattern 2013

At last, the both the IITs and government agree for a new IIT JEE pattern from year 2013. Earliers IITs were not in agreement with the HRD minsiter Mr. Kapil Sibbal proposal. One of the hindrance was to include board exam number in the test. Even now the board exam is considered.

Following are the highlights of the new IIT pattern from 2013:

1. Firstly there will be a joint entrance exam- main (JEE-main) that will be held near around April. Any student with the required eligibility can sit for this multiple choice exam. This exam will be conducted by CBSE and this will look like AIEEE.

2. The top 1.5 lakh student from this exam will qualify for JEE advanced. The JEE will be prepared by IITs and it will be conducted after 6 weeks of JEE main.

3. From this exam result, a merit list will be prepared and admission will be made in IITs and NITs according to this list.

4. But the real twist is here:

Now student can not ignore their board exams if they want to get admission in IIT. They have to be in top 20% of their respective board and with in top 1.5 lakh students.

For example: If the top percentage of CBSE board for non-medical (PCM) is 95%. Then to be eligible for admission to IIT, one should have atleast 75%.

If one student top the JEE advanced test and he/she belongs to CBSE but scores 65%, then he will not be eligible for IIT.

Similarly if a student is from Punjab board, where the top percentage is 88% then eligibility for IIT admission will be 68%.

Thus students can now onwards will not be able to ignore their board exams.

According to me, this is the right step to develop student overall thinking power. What is your point of view? Please leave your comments in the comment section.
